Awards are social events that seek to honour individuals or organizations for remarkable feats over a period of time. At the gathering of the giants and stars of the electronic commerce (e-commerce) space at the Plush Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel in Accra for the maiden edition of the Ghana E-Commerce Awards organized by OML Africa, Zoobashop.com proved to be much of a staggering figure and an invincible alpha of the sector.

Aimed at rewarding excellence in electronic commerce (e-Commerce) in Ghana, the stage was set for the historic showdown of a battle of supremacy.

The event saw for the very first time, all the stakeholders in Ghana’s ecommerce industry congregate to celebrate their collective success over the years and reward companies and individuals for their exemplary performances in 2018. With twenty-eight plaques competed for by a host of companies and individuals; spanning the categories of Best Online Retailer to Best Mobile Banking App, Zoobashop won four awards, a feat that translates into towering over competitors who were “short” of being giants.

Mrs. Anita Wiafe-Asinor, a member of the awards committee assured the public that none of the nominees would be able to buy their way through, as the judges would strictly go by the criteria. She explained that, “Winners would be selected through a 60 per cent judges’ selection and 40 per cent public vote”. This rigorous process makes for a thundering statement in attestation to the industry respect garnered by Zoobashop and the love the public has for the Zoobashop.com brand.

Zoobashop’s awards on the night were:

  • Best Ghanaian owned eCommerce Company
  • Best Online Retailer (2018)

Leading the starry team at Zoobashop, the company’s C.E.O. Mr. Albert Biga was also adjudged, Best Male Entrepreneur of the Year and was later bestowed an Honorary Award for his pioneering role in E-Commerce in Ghana.

Receiving these awards on Zoobashop’s behalf, Mr. Biga showed immense appreciation to the company’s many loyal customers as well as the dedicated young men and women the company employs. “After we were adjudged CIMG E-Commerce Company of the year in 2015 and again in 2016, this award is proof we haven’t been resting on our laurels. As always, I would like to say a big thanks to our customers, the Zoobashoppers, without whom we wouldn’t have been in the running to receive this award. This is their award too, and we at Zoobashop would continue to work to ensure their online shopping experiences are truly awesome”, Mr. Biga said.

Zoobashop.com ventured online retailing in 2013 when many believed a fully-fledged online retail store could not thrive in Ghana. The company’s resolve to offer a wide variety of products to the Ghanaian, at awesome prices saw their popularity grow steadily after a turbulent first couple of months. The online store ignored the naysayers and held its own so well, sailing rather smoothly due to their hard work, five (5) years on. Other online retailers have emerged to offer competition, but more importantly to provide the prospective shopper an even wider variety of products to choose from.

Head of Operations at Zoobashop, Mr. Paul Dadzie was delighted by the awards received. “Research has proven that eCommerce would be the prevalent mode of conducting business in the not-too-distant future. “I am very happy that a Ghanaian-owned company was the first to be adjudged ecommerce retailer of the year at the maiden eCommerce awards.”

On the awards the company’s CEO received, Mr. Dadzie said, “This shows very clearly that hard-work does pay. Our CEO is a leader who urges us to slog it out until every customer is satisfied”

The Zoobashop.com team at the event were a proud alpha team with a basket full of gold to show for it. Like any successful team with a hold on reality, they resolved to work even harder to ensure they retain the awards the company won and win a couple more in 2019.
