Ribera del Duero
Tinta del País, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, a great Spanish varietal with a slight French twist.
The winery and vineyards of Viña Arnáiz are located in the town of Haza in a strategic enclave where Juana de Haza, a noble of Castille, began cultivating vineyards at the foot of her fortress in the twelfth century. These vineyards grew both in size and fame throughout the territories due to their extraordinary quality. Our winery is located in that fortress, with an area of 80 hectares in La Magdalena estate home to vine plots on gentle hillsides where we cultivate traditional Tinta del Pais alongside newer varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
In the center of our property a tower and underground cellars dating back to the seventeenth century are preserved with their adjoining wineries. Today the renovated winery maintains its character and historic constructions, with an area of 12,000 m2, production and bottling capacity of 18 million bottles a year, and capacity for 10,000 American oak Bordeaux barrels. The winery was awarded best winery in Spain by the prestigious Vinitaly International Competition two years running.
During pruning plots whose fruit will be included in the coupage of each wine are selected. After the grapevines have received careful treatment throughout the year, the harvest date is set when the grapes have reached their optimal ripeness on each plot, and manual harvesting of the grapes begins.
Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are de-stemmed and proceed to maceration in the tanks, which is extended until the desired balance in the wine's composition is achieved. Next comes devatting by gravity without mechanical action, and the wine obtained, after an initial decanting, undergoes malolactic fermentation.
This Roble Castillo de Aza is aged in French oak barrels for 6 months.
Appearance: attractive cherry red color with purple trim highlighting its youth, with good depth and persistent tears.
Nose: good aromatic intensity, fruity with hints of red berries, elegant and clean base with notes of vanilla.
Palate: fresh, fruity, round and intense. With a mature and persistent tannic aftertaste.
This Ribera del Duero goes perfectly with all kinds of well-seasoned meats and stews.
We recommend uncorking or decanting for a while prior to tasting to fully appreciate its virtues. Serve between 16º and 18ºC.
